Crackled flower Bicycle DIY bookends
This Bicycle-themed DIY bookends perfect for spring – add flowers-paper with decoupage medium and a crackle finish. So much fun!
I decided to customize my bike-frame-kit-with scrapbook paper and decoupage medium. But after I did that I wanted to add a special touch to add that I use don’t, the crackle often, but how –.
I like the way that crackle gives an interesting touch to a project AND to reveal a secondary color below the top layer.
read on to this project!
wood-book Supplies support (mine are from Kaisercraft)
Mod smorgasbord of Satin
acrylic paint – Orange, Warm White, Coastal Blue
FolkArt Crackle Medium
Scrapbook-paper – 1 sheet
scissors or a cutter knife
As a support for the first time, this Cycling-book, I knew I had to have them! To cut So easily.
to Use to keep track of the pen, the book, based on your scrapbook paper. You only need paper cladding of the exterior – so trace each piece of the bookend a time. Then cut and set them aside.
Paint the wood Bicycle pieces with Warm White – I also painted the sides of the book, pieces of support, which would color to the outside with the same.
This is especially important if your paper is thinner. If you paint the bookends completely orange, then this color could be due to the paper, so that it’s better, back on the sides with white.
Paint the other side orange (or whatever color that coordinates with your paper). Let all your pieces dry.
At the top of the wood Bicycle pieces that you’ll paint the crackle Medium on the top. Let it dry for about 1 – 2 hours (or whatever your particular bottle instructions say).
When the crackle medium is dry, paint your contrasting colors on the Bicycle piece. And then it’s amazing – the crackling begins!!!
you don’t brush over the area repeatedly, you ruin a brush in a direct with a medium coat of paint (you don’t want to, which only crackled). You do this on both the wood Bicycle pieces . . . paint them completely and let them dry.
Then cut out the pieces of paper, down with the Mod-hodgepodge. Let it dry, 15 – 20 minutes.
Gluing all the pieces together with the craft glue and put a layer of Mod-pick-and-mix to seal the paper with the bike.
your DIY bookends “fini”!!
And here’s a closer look at the crackle medium. I’m a big fan of the look!
