Decorate boxes with handmade paper feathers
These DIY boxes were easy to make – I Podged easy paper feathers with my favorite colors of paper, then Mod them to the boxes.
So, if I got to take advantage of the chance to see some Astro brights papers in bright neons . . . and I had to fly around some empty wooden boxes . . . I took a chance.
And I love how my DIY boxes. It’s a special surprise inside, as well as what you can see, at the end of this post. In the meantime, here’s how I made them.
Collect These Supplies
Unfinished wood boxes
FolkArt acrylic paint – Wicker White, New Leaf Green, Aqua
Mod smorgasbord of Satin
Astro brights paper in several colors
White sheet of paper
Paint the bases of your boxes Wicker White and let dry.
It’s fancy feather time now! I traced the size of the boxes on a sheet of paper, so I would know how big my feathers. You’ll need a bigger spring and a smaller spring. You will be sure to trace the template on the back side of the paper as well (use a window to do this – hold the spring against the light).
I used the leaf shape as a template. All I did was cut strips of neon paper in different widths and glued on the upper side of the leaf shape. You lead a half of the leaf first.
What I love about the Astro brights paper, the liveliness and vibrancy. These colors are amazing, seriously.
is covered by the half of the sheet, place a strip of masking tape over the center of the piece of paper. Then turn the paper again and cut out a half of the leaf – this is the reason why they followed the shape of the leaf on the back and the front.
Repeat with the other half of the sheet. Then you do the smaller leaf.
Paint the lids of the cartons and let them dry.
Instead of the lid on the boxes so that you know where the springs are. You put a strip of Mod smorgasbord on the box and then set the left half of the spring down (tape side down).
you Flatten it with your hand, then Mod smorgasbord of over the top. Don’t wipe the brush back and forth too many times, or you will bleed to paper. A few strokes are okay. Repeat the process with the right side.
you Remove the cover and Mod hodgepodge of both boxes with two layers of Mod-hodgepodge (of the lid). Let dry.
Now it’s time for the special surprise. I painted the inside of the two boxes with neon colors. The larger box is Neon Pink and the smaller box Neon Blue. Don’t you love her? I’m so pleased with my boxes.
