Custom Coasters from the Dollar Store

These custom coasters are made with supplies from the dollar store, and they look like vintage milk caps! Get the free printable and tutorial here.
Hi, it’s David from Cheltenham Road.
If you’ve my Etsy store, or follow along on my blog you’'ve visited;ll know, I'm the coaster guy.
I have my custom coasters made entirely by hand, cut the wood base to the last bit of cork on the back, but I’m always interested in new ways to do it.While poking around the Dollar, which, I discovered, they had tons of these plastic coasters blanks, so I got myself a set and began to play.
As you’ll find that I’m all about the vintage and I’m a little bit crazy vintage diary for bottle top graphics. I thought it would be cool to see how big the bottle tops so I scanned some of my favorite bottle top graphics and set to work.
I have most of the supplies had on hand.

`

1 set of plastic dollar store coaster blanks
Off-white spray paint
Matt Mod hotchpotch
Envirotex Lite (available at Michaels craft stores)
Laser print outs of a couple of vintage dairy label <–click to get to them!
double-sided tape (totally optional, but helpful!)

The beer lid blanks came with a circle of cork that I needed to get rid of. I discovered it peeled pretty easy and a little bit of Goo Gone took care of any remaining residue or bits of cork.
I Used to stick the double-sided tape, my coaster while I painted it.
A bit of Mod-hodgepodge attached to the graphics on the coaster base . . .
and once that was dry I hodgepodge of a sealing layer of Mod. The seal coat is very important, because the Envirotex will eat through any unsealed paper and ruin the track.
Once the sealing layer of Mod hodgepodge was completely dry, I mixed up the Envirotex (I use Envirotex all the time and it works great, but you have to follow their instructions very, very closely), and poured it.
And that’s all there is to it.

you can of course, use a round graphic that might appeal to you, to your custom coasters, but if you would like to my vintage milk bottle graphics, simply right click on this link:

Alternative options
If you’t find the coaster blanks in your dollar store that I thought it was a similar effect could be easily and cost-effectively done with the help of the saucer from a small clay pot or even a large metal lid from a glass.
I used Envirotex, because it would be a bit of weight on the coaster, but Hard layer or in the dishwasher Mod hodgepodge would work very well (just make sure to let them completely heal).
