Maybe you are looking for Fourth of July decorations that are easy, inexpensive and look great for a party or gathering. Lucky for you, these DIY Patriotic votives come together quickly, so you can crank out a bunch in no time.
One thing I also like about these 4. Of July decorations is that you have to be subtle. Many of the 4. Of July decorations are in your face: to name what I like “America, y’all!” Nothing wrong with fat and glistening, but if you’re going for something that doesn’t scream Patriotic, but still, the vibe offers, these are perfect.

This Outdoor Safe?
I don’t like to keep the candles outdoors in General, unless they are made to be outside. Sometimes the wicks get soggy and hard to light. Having said that, these candles can be kept, but outside should be stored under something so that they rained get don’t get hit with sun light too much and don’t.
Outdoor Mod smorgasbord is too much for these Fourth of July decorations. The Outdoor formula is thick, and the tissue paper is delicate. You can definitely use again for the whole summer, but you need to update it. Of “update” I mean, remove the tissue paper and Mod smorgasbord and decorate anew. You may have used up the candle, in part, by then . . . but after that only the re-use of the glasses by the addition of tea lights!

Collect These Supplies

votive candle in glass holder
Matt Mod-hodgepodge (sparkle Mod smorgasbord would also be fun!)
sponge paint brush
tissue paper
x-acto knife
tape measure
wax paper
cardboard/foam-core to protect your work surface

With a tape measure, measure the circumference of your votive, then measure its height. With these numbers, draw a rectangle on your tissue paper (one for each of your votives) and cut them out.
set your tissue paper to cut rectangles on a piece of cardboard or foam core and lines down the length of each rectangle, but don’t " cross-section through an edge of the tissue paper. Place the rectangles on a piece of wax paper and paint a layer of Mod hodgepodge about you (carefully).
Let it dry for 5 – 10 minutes, very carefully remove them from the wax paper. To dry, set each side on a dry sheet of wax paper.
Why hassle with delicate tissue paper on this project?
Tissue paper lets more light in! The slits in the paper to let in light, but the tissue paper will let even more light Shine. You can swap regular paper for the tissue, if you’d might peel, in the event you skip the waxed paper/Mod hodgepodge layer/careful.
If the tissue has dried paper, cut along the slits with an x-acto knife, and pull gently to make every slot apart sure, they are separate.

Here’s what this DIY Patriotic votives look from the top – gluing the paper on slightly in from the top and the bottom of the votives, the paper slits flare out for a cute lantern effect. Festive, isn't it?
